Simple Machines Words to know

1 comment:

  1. I lcicked extra large, but its still hard to see so im going to post the words here as well:

    1. Simple machines- A simple machine is a mechanical device that changes the direction or magnitude of a force.
    2. Compound machines- is two or more simple machines.
    3. Force- In physics, a force is any influence that causes an object to undergo a change in speed, a change in direction, or a change in shape. In other words, a force is that which can cause an object with mass to change its velocity (which includes to begin moving from a state of rest), i.e., to accelerate, or which can cause a flexible object to deform.
    4. Friction- Friction is the force resisting the relative motion of solid surfaces, fluid layers, and/or material elements sliding against each other.
    5. Gravitation- Gravitation, or gravity, is a natural phenomenon by which physical bodies attract with a force proportional to their mass.
    6. Magnetism- Magnetism is a property of materials that respond at an atomic or subatomic level to an applied magnetic field.
    7. Work- In physics, mechanical work is a scalar quantity that can be described as the product of a force times the distance through which it acts, and it is called the work of the force.
    8. Newtons- units for force
    9. Joules- units for energy
    10. watts- units for power
    11. acceleration- In physics, acceleration is the rate of change of velocity with time.
    12. balanced forces-Equal forces acting on each other and therefore canceling each other out.
    13. unbalanced forces- One force is larger or smaller than the other, therefore it will be influenced by the other force.
    14. inertia- Inertia is the resistance of any physical object to a change in its state of motion or rest, or the tendency of an object to resist any change in its motion.
    15. power- In physics, power is the rate at which energy is transferred, used, or transformed.
    16. speed- the rate at which you can cover a particular distance over a particular time.
    17. velocity- Speed in a given direction
    18. kinetic energy- Energy of motion
    19. potential energy- stored energy
    20. machines- A machine manages power to accomplish a task.
    21. momentum- Like velocity, linear momentum is a vector quantity, possessing a direction as well as a magnitude. Linear momentum is also a conserved quantity, meaning that if a closed system is not affected by external forces, its total linear momentum cannot change.
    22. distance- Distance (or farness) is a numerical description of how far apart objects are.
    23. Fulcrum- Fulcrum is the support about which a lever pivots
